I think I’ll always love, no matter the hurt this caused. The burn marks will always haunt my skin, and the cuts will forever mark yours. I don’t know what you will become—now, I never will—but even after this war, I know I can still love.
That’s the thing about the mind of a giver. They never stop. They’ll excuse your crimes, endure the silent nights, and carry the weight without complaint. But it only takes one word, one moment, one drop too many, and suddenly, it’s all gone. It’s not that they love for something in return—no, they’d keep loving you even though you broke them. But when they stop, they don’t stop loving entirely. They just stop loving *you*.
For me, it’s too early. I know I’ll be trapped in your vines for a while longer. It hurts—I won’t deny that—but at least now I see the truth: the fault isn’t mine. You had the motive, you had the chance, yet you chose to walk away. I used to pity you, thinking I was expecting too much, believing you were too tangled in your own puzzle to help with mine. But now, my eyes are open. You always had the time. You just never made it for me.
When I finally get out, I’ll be scarred, traumatised at the least. But I won’t be numb. I won’t give you that satisfaction. My heart, though bleeding profusely now, still beats. Yes, I may never look at you the same again—and I shouldn’t. Because I know I did my best. It just didn’t work on you.
Loving you was my choice all those years ago. Loving life will be my next. I loved, I learned, but I didn’t lose.
If not you, then someone else—someone who truly wants to, no, *someone who will*. Maybe it’s Prince Charming, or maybe it’s me, as it was all along. Either way, my heart yearns for love, but even more, it yearns *to love*. And one day, many moons from now, I know it will. It still does.
It hopes and prays for the people who remain in my life—the ones who deserve it. Because you, my loved, hurt me. But you failed to destroy me.
